Get Paid to Save with Rebates from MMWD

Released by MMWD
The Marin Municipal Water District is pleased to announce new rebates for high-efficiency toilets, high-efficiency clothes washers and smart irrigation controllers.

The district launched the rebate program September 1 with the tagline “Get Paid to Save.” In addition to getting a rebate on their purchase, customers will continue to save money, and water, in the long run by replacing old water-wasting toilets, clothes washers and irrigation controllers with new water-efficient models.

The rebates include:

· Up to $100 per high-efficiency toilet

Toilets are the single biggest water user inside your home, so replacing older toilets with new high-efficiency models is an easy way to trim your water bill. Today’s high-efficiency toilets are designed to use less than 1.3 gallons per flush while still providing superior performance.

MMWD is offering rebates up to $100 per toilet when you replace your existing high-water-use toilet with a new EPA WaterSense-labeled, high-efficiency toilet. The toilet being replaced must use 3.5 gallons or more per flush, or use 1.6 gallons per flush and be model year 2001 or older. Limit: two toilet rebates per household.

· Up to $50 for a high-efficiency clothes washer

Your old-school washing machine could be chugging 30-40 gallons of water with every load. In comparison, today’s high-efficiency clothes washers use less than half that. And because they require less warm water for warm washes, they help reduce energy use, too.

Get a rebate up to $50 when you purchase a new high-efficiency clothes washer to replace your existing washer. The new washer must be listed as Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier 3. Models that use silver ion technology do not qualify. Limit: one clothes washer rebate per household.

· Up to $20 per valve for a smart irrigation controller and up to $30 per valve for commercial properties

A smart irrigation controller is like a high-tech brain for your irrigation system. It self-adjusts based on real-time weather and site conditions like rainfall, wind, temperature, humidity, solar radiation and soil type. By automatically apply water only when needed, a smart controller can help prevent overwatering and reduce runoff.

MMWD is offering rebates up to $20 per active residential valve station or $30 per active commercial valve station when you purchase an EPA WaterSense-labeled smart irrigation controller to replace your standard controller. A water conservation survey at your property is required before purchasing your controller. Please call (415) 945-1527 to schedule.

Complete details, lists of qualifying products, and application forms are available at marinwater.org/rebates, or call (415) 945-1527.

Funding for the rebates comes from the Marin Municipal Water District and the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006, administered by State of California, Department of Water Resources.
Bay Area water agencies are coordinating to provide this rebate program, funded in part under a regional grant to Bay Area Clean Water Agencies under the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006, administered by State of California, Department of Water Resources.
