Let's Split Up the Country!

A brief plan to move our nation forward.

I've been noticing lately that Congress is in a fatal bind, with neither side willing to compromise with the other side, even when it's a good idea.(Romney's Massachusetts health plan that Obama copied and now the Republicans hate is a great example). We're never going to get along. I've come across an idea that, albiet tongue in cheek, would solve our deadlock in Congress. This is making the rounds.

Split up the country into red and blue states.

We blue states will form a new country we'll take the other blue states with us. You red states can run things your way, and we blue states won't have to go through all your red tape every time we have a good idea or plan.

In case you aren't aware, the blue states include California, New York, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the rest of the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of Blue States of America

To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Gator Land.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs.

You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

Please be aware that we are pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Afghanistan at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home.

We wish you success in Afghanistan, and possibly Iran as well, but we're not willing to spend our resources in these sorts of pursuits.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners), 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S.' low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We also get Hollywood and Yosemite.

Think about it: 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and 61 percent of you crazy bozos believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

We're taking the good weed, too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.

You're the ninth person who has called me a commie. The first settlement in the New World was Jamestown, and it was run in a communist way. Whoever brought in a kill had to share it. Everyone contributed to the common survival of the community. Things break down when people don't contribute their fair share, either because of laziness, illness, or age. That's where capitalism comes in. You get the fruits of your own labor, and you'd better do well or you starve. Our country embraces both, but the Republicans lean more towards a free market, while the Democrats want more control, so that the forgotten or less fortunate can still survive. Most of the social programs are supported by Democrats. These programs cost money. Taxes will supply that money. If we had the tax bracket of every president from Eisenhower up to Bush #2, we would have a balanced budget now. Bush #2 changed it to benefit the rich. The blues want to change it back, and the reds want to keep it the way Bush #2 set it up. I'm still amazed at how that 1% got that many toothless bozos to vote for them using religion, race, and immigration as their ammo.

Communism doesn't work. Just look at the Soviet Union. China is still communist but they are more capitalist now and becoming more every day. You can't just stick a gun to my head (government) and tell me to support the underprivileged and downtrodden. Government is legalized force. That is why we have charity. Charity is freely giving. When you take from the productive and give to the unproductive, the productive stop producing. There is another group of the first settlers that came to America that tried communism and they all died. You need to have an incentive to produce and work hard. We would have a balanced budget if we did not spend so damn much money on unconstitutional programs. There are thousands of them. The federal government has only a few jobs, provide national defense, handle disputes between the states and protect the life and liberty of the people. All the other things should be at the state and local level. We have gotten so far away from what the founders had envisioned for this country. This is the United STATES of America not the Federal territories of America. The States are sovereign entities. I'm waiting for the first state to secede from the union because of all the crap the Federal government has pulled. There will be a lot of people moving there.

Your Jamestown communistic experiment ended in failure. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2120669/posts

This idea sounds absurd and immature. You need to review your history. This idea doesn't work! You sound like a spoiled child.

Number one: Jamestown wasn't my idea, but I would have gone with it to survive. Then when the section 8 got too burdensome, I would have looked for change, as I have initiative, and while I'll help Jerry's kids, I'm against loafers. Number two: "Tongue in cheek", historically means it's a joke. If you want to see spoiled children, go to Wyndover, but don't go to a comedy club. You won't get it.
