Fire Department Staff will be On-Hand to Share the Fire Truck’s Enhanced Design Features!

We are pleased to announce that the City recently acquired a new fire engine to enhance our emergency response operations in Mill Valley. The engine was made specifically for Mill Valley to address safety and access issues unique to our community, such as very narrow streets, steep canyons, and close proximity to open space. With the input from a special design committee, the engine was built by Rosenbauer America in Minnesota. It meets all National Fire Protection Association standards as well as the latest federal emission standards.

Some of the enhanced design features of the new engine include remote water nozzles, wireless radio headsets and externally mounted cameras. These features give firefighters the ability to operate the equipment from various locations more safely and effectively.

Most engines have a 15-year life cycle, with the first 10 years in service and the last five in reserve. This engine will replace a 2001 engine that will be moved from front line status, to reserve status. The total cost of the engine and associated equipment is approximately $590,000, paid for via a loan secured at a low interest rate.

Fire department personnel are finishing up their orientation training and mounting equipment this week. The new engine is scheduled to go into service on May 1.

We look forward to seeing you before the Community Meeting on May 1, 2014, from 5:45-6:15 pm. Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto, Mill Valley
