The world’s top ballet and modern dance schools are announcing audition tour schedules for next summer’s intensive programs. See the announcement for one of the most highly respected programs offered by American Ballet Theatre. Bay Area auditions for ABT’s summer intensive will be held on Jan 19th in San Francisco and Jan 20th in San Jose. Other highly regarded summer dance intensives are offered by the Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet, and the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, among others.
American Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive is notable for its National Training Curriculum (NTC), which was developed for ABT’s year-round training program at the JKO School in New York City. It has since been adopted by a growing number of leading ballet academies worldwide, including the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the Ballet San Jose School, and has been embraced by teachers in Europe, South America, and Russia.
Based on the latest scientific and dance medicine principles while grounded in a mix of classical principles from the Italian, French and Russian traditions, the NTC aims to build strong, healthy dancers with a clean, unfussy technique, who can adapt easily to a broad range of choreographic styles.
Kids and teens who are preparing to audition for any summer intensive – including the many fine modern dance summer programs – above all need a strong grounding in basic ballet technique. If you are trained in a pure, stripped-down technique like ABT’s NTC, you are likely to be well prepared for the demands of any dance intensive. Here in Marin, the only program taught by ABT-certified teachers, trained to follow the principles of the NTC, is offered at Studio C, now in two locations in Sausalito and Fairfax.
