VIPs Turn Out for Guideboat Groundbreaking at Mill Valley Lumber Yard

Mayor lauds campaign to preserve the historic buildings on the 120-year-old property.

Fifteen months after the Cerri family put the Mill Valley Lumber Yard on the market – worrying many residents that the historic buildings on the 120-year-old property could be torn down and turned into something they wouldn’t want to see there – the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce held a celebration Tuesday of avoiding that fate.

Mayor Andy Berman, Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce Director Daniel Escalzo and a number of city officials turned out for a groundbreaking ceremony for the opening of the Guideboat Co. retail shop and and to recognize the efforts of property owners Matt and Jan Mathews to preserve the buildings.

"What this group did is what we dream about happening in our town," Berman said. "Everybody loves what we're seeing. I love what we're seeing. You bring a business to town that is completely different and it keeps the tranquility and the environment of this town. Great."
