Urban Remedy, an Organic Juices and Snacks Shop, Opens in Downtown Mill Valley

Mill Valley resident Neka Pasquale's two-year-old business grew out of her creation of juices for her acupuncture clients at Evo Spa in Strawberry Village; shop is company's second in Marin to open in 2013.

Two years after launching her Urban Remedy organic juice and snack line as an acupuncturist at Evo Spa in Strawberry, Mill Valley native Neka Pasquale has opened a shop and eatery in her hometown.

Urban Remedy, which serves up organic, raw, vegan and gluten-free juice cleanses, desserts, snacks and nutritional supplements, opened last Friday at 15 East Blithedale Ave., the 800-square-foot space formerly occupied the Classic Kids photography studio.

“There’s no place that has fresh, organic juices and salads and raw desserts – it just doesn’t exist in Mill Valley,” said Pasquale, who grew up in Mill Valley and attended Old Mill School. “All of the recipes I’ve created – those are all things I’ve wanted to have myself.”

The opening comes just three months after Urban Remedy opened its inaugural shop at 1904 4th Street in San Rafael's West End district.

Pasquale said the business was born out of her acupuncture practice and her belief that food is medicine. She started creating organic juices for her acupuncture clients at Evo Spa, and the demand eventually grew to the point that it became its own business and she left Evo.

From its debut, Urban Remedy primarily focused on delivery of organic juices and multi-day "juice cleanse" kits. Urban Remedy offers three- to seven-day cleanses, with the juices and meals priced at $60 per day.

The growth of Pasquale's business kicked into high gear in the fall of 2012, when it garnered the attention of Science Inc., a Los Angeles-based accelerator that is now a shareholder in the company and organized a $1 million round of seed funding.

At both or Urban Remedy's shops in Marin, customers can eat in or take out.

The 411: Urban Remedy is located at 15 East Blithedale Ave. in Mill Valley. Hours: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Mon.–Fri.); 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Sat.-Sun.). Visit the website for more info.
