Peet's Takes the Coffee Crown in Mill Valley

Downtown coffee and tea shop has long been a social hub and readers backed it as their favorite coffee shop in this week's edition of our Readers' Choice series.

is the closest thing Mill Valley has to a watercooler.

That's the sentiment you'll hear from the downtown shop's plethora of regulars who can be found any day of the week gathered around tables and yakking it up about the topic du jour. Or, if it's nice out, you can spot them over at "Sconehenge" across the street.

Given its loyal following, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Peet's took the coffee crown in this . Peet's notched more than 30 percent of the votes cast, with and taking the silver and bronze, respectively.

"If Peet's doesn't come out on top I will abandon my old hometown," . "Since they opened in Mill Valley, I have not even been inside any other coffee source."

Lou doesn't have to worry about abandoning the 94941.

This is proof Mill Valley needs a real coffee shop.

Peers may win in the social scene category but if you are looking for GREAT COFFEE check out La Coppa!!

I agree about La Coppa...the best in MV! I love the Peet's on Vine Street in Berkeley, but will continue to pass on the one in MV.

The best coffee in Mill Valley certainly belonged to Peets for a long time. The best atmosphere and social hangout was the original coffee roastery when it still had its coffee bean bags to sit on. Before that I'd give it to the late great Sonapa Farms....but these days, hands down there is no contest. For quality, atmosphere and excellent service ( and music) It's the new Sweetwater cafe across from city hall. It's still a relative secret, but that's changed with the courtyard open with seating...
