Mill Valley's Jan Wiegel Named COO of Marin Economic Forum

No stranger to serving on county boards and commissions, Wiegel plans to collaborate with other organizations to "hopefully break the log jam that has dogged local decision-making of late."

Mill Valley resident Jan Alff Wiegel has recently been named the Chief Operating Officer of the Marin Economic Forum, which she’ll be in charge of communications, fundraising and community outreach for the nonprofit.

“Jan was selected for this position because she brought an extensive professional network, built on her many years serving the county, and a communications and public relations strategy to Marin Economic Forum that distinguished her from other candidates," Chief Executive Officer Robert Eyler said in a release.

A resident of Mill Valley for 28 years, Wiegel has served on the Marin County Planning Commission, Environmental Forum of Marin, and the Transportation Authority of Marin. She currently serves on the Marin County Regulatory Improvement Advisory Committee and advocates for zero emission transportation.

Wiegel graduated from Dominican University of California, San Rafael, and University of California, Berkeley.  She’s also committed to climate changes and drives an electric car.

“Over the years, I've watched Marin tackle some very important projects, including the redevelopment of Marin City, the early environmental review of Grady Ranch, and the Buck Institute on Aging in Novato," Wiegel said. "In those days, people came together, even when they disagreed, to craft policies that balanced different interests in a reasonable manner."

The Marin Economic Forum is in a position to forge collaboration among those working to build a healthy future for Marin, she said.

"I am already reaching out to community groups to invite other leadership partners to gather with Marin Economic Forum in educating each other,” she said, “and hopefully breaking the log jam that has dogged local decision-making of late."
