Local Fitness Firm Recalls 'Perfect Pullup'

Strawberry-based company is recalling 7,000 pull-up devices due to a fall hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says.

The so-called Perfect Pullup was flawed, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Perfect Fitness, located on Belvedere Place in Strawberry, is recalling 7,000 of the pull-up devices because of a fall hazard caused by potential cracking in the plastic handles, the commission said Friday. The Perfect Pullup is an adjustable bar that is attached to doorways, can crack, the commission said.

The company has imported the devices from China and sold them nationwide from January 2008 through February 2010 for around $80 has received more than 2,000 reports of the handles cracking, which could cause a user to fall.

Perfect Fitness officials did not return a request for comment.

The company has advised customers to stop using the handles and order free replacement handles. Customers can order a free handle replacement kit here or call 1-877-974-7733 for more information.

Perfect Fitness has received about 2,200 reports of handles cracking, including 38 reports of mostly minor injuries that consist primarily of bruises, strains and sprains, the company said.

The recalled handles account for only 1.5 percent of the handles sold, and were sold on the Perfect Pullup website, as well as Amazon.com, Dick’s Sporting Goods and other retailers, but not at Walmart or Target.
