Bob Weir to Host Free Live Webcast Party for Jerry Garcia’s 70th Birthday
Mill Valley resident and ex-Grateful Dead guitarist will be joined by Phish bassist Mike Gordon, Tom Petty and Heartbreakers' keyboardist Benmont Tench, Jonathan Wilson and more in honoring Garcia's enduring musical legacy.
Bob Weir and the family of Jerry Garcia are joining forces Friday, August 3 to celebrate what would be the Grateful Dead frontman's 70th birthday. The concert, titled “Move Me Brightly” will be broadcast for free in HD video from Weir’s TRI Studios in San Rafael.
The one-time only live performance will feature a diverse cast of performers, including Phish bassist Mike Gordon, Jeff Chimienti, Tom Petty and Heartbreakers’ keyboardist Benmont Tench, Jonathan Wilson and a host of others.
If top-notch jamming wasn’t already enough, the event will also feature exclusive interviews with some of Garcia’s contemporaries, including Marin resident Carlos Santana. David Crosby will read a tribute entitled “Cause I’m Missing Him Tonight” that he wrote specifically for the occasion. Actor Luke Wilson will take a leave of absence from Hollywood to emcee the night’s proceedings.
