Garden Exchange Events Return Saturday

Marin Open Garden Project hosts weekly gardener gatherings in Boyle Park and Homestead Valley's Volunteer Park starting tomorrow.

Is your garden overflowing with zucchinis but laden with tomatoes that just won’t ripen?

Lucky for you, the Marin Open Garden Project’s weekly are back for their third season, starting tomorrow in their regular home at and a new spot at Volunteer Park in Homestead Valley.

Julie Hanft of the Marin Open Garden Project says backyard gardeners are encouraged to bring their excess fruit, vegetables, flowers, seeds, seedlings, and other goodies to the events, which take place each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Boyle Park and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Volunteer Park, located at Melrose and Evergreen avenues.

In addition to the exchanges, Hanft says the events also serve as a potential drop-off point for residents who subscribe to the farm fresh veggies boxes from Canvas Ranch in Petaluma. Once the threshold of 10 subscribers is reached at a given exchange site, Canvas Ranch will make deliveries to subscribers at the exchange site. Subscribers can then exchange any unwanted produce in the farm box for backyard grown veggies.

The events occur elsewhere in Marin as well. Here are all of the garden exchange locations:
