El Paseo to Open in mid-March

Long-delayed restaurant from Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar is now slated to open in less than a month, although the fate of the adjacent bakery is less certain.

Mill Valley diners waiting for the of the new El Paseo can finally exhale. The iconic restaurant that is being re-launched in a joint venture from Mill Valley residents and is set to open in less than a month.

Representatives of Florence confirmed Friday that El Paseo is "absolutely opening in mid-March," although the opening date of the adjacent bakery, also managed by the Florence Group, is less certain. Florence and Hagar took over the space in late 2009.

The Florence Group, the umbrella company that manages all things Tyler Florence, plan to name El Paseo’s Chef de Cuisine as soon as next week once the proverbial fine print is sorted through. Earlier this week, the company announced the departure of Jeremy Fox as Creative Director after a .

The style of El Paseo was previously described by Florence and Hagar as “fine dining in a rustic setting,” “seasonal,” “very locavore” and “old American.” It's unclear at this point how the menu will differ from Florence’s other restaurants, Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco and Rotisserie & Wine in Napa, but we can expect Florence’s new chef to source locally and vary the menu with what’s available at the market.
