Overview:

When I’m in Sausalito, I’m always torn between dining at Poggio or Angelino. I love them both.

Angelino is almost 30 years old – that tells you something about consistency. When I want a taste of southern Italy I head here.

Décor:

Comfortable, a bit nautical and a million dollar view.

The Drinks:

They have a welcoming full bar and a nice selection of California and Italian wines.

Appetizers:

My favorite is the tender octopus and potato salad, napped with an oil and parsley vinaigrette. I always enjoy the rosemary focaccia (made in house). Also, seductive is the arancini, small rice balls stuffed with peas and beef in a saffron broth.

The house salad brings together arugula, fava beans, asparagus and prosciutto. It’s a breath of spring produce.

Entrees:

One of the best pasta dishes in Marin can be found here. Little ears (orcchiette) are cooked and then sautéed with house made sausage, broccoli rabe and pecorino cheese. The pepper flakes make it a spicy dish.

One dish that has always tickles my taste buds is the grease-free fritto misto, deep-fried squid, shrimp, zucchini and fennel.

Another is the vitello saltimbocca, thin, buttery-tender veal stuffed with prosciutto and sage in a white wine sauce.

Pizzas are also available.

Desserts:

Any of the ricotta pastries are terrific, but the tiramisu will also pick you up.

Service:

Charming and friendly.
