Not-So-Wintry Wonderland Comes to Mill Valley

Under sunny skies and warmer-than-usual temperatures, two-day Winterfest draws hundreds downtown for ice skating, music and a celebration of the holiday season. Post your photos and thoughts on the event here.

After a summer when several of his events were hit with inclement weather, Mill Valley events producer Michael Vogel scanned the packed Depot Plaza on Saturday, seeing dozens of kids and parents in shorts and t-shirts as part of the .

"Maybe I should move them to December," he joked.

On the heels of an unusually wet summer, Mill Valley was blessed with some not-so-wintry weather during Winterfest, the revived holiday event organized by resident Ken Brooks, the and longtime Winterfest producers and owners the Petrone family.

Saturday's event was laden with musical treats and anchored by Cole Tate, who served as musical director for the day, and Americana and blues artist Danny Click, whose closed the day with a raucous set.

On Sunday morning, a 1,200-square-foot synthetic ice skating rink was built on top of the Depot Plaza, drawing hundreds of kids and parents, many of whom dashed across the ice clad in beachwear.

The event concluded with a countdown and a tree lighting ceremony, and Brooks said he was excited by the turnout and the fact that the event went off without a hitch. 

"We definitely hope to bring it back next year," he said.
