Soccer, the 31st Original Escape from Alcatraz triathlon, Boy Scouts selling popcorn and an outdoor wedding rehearsal grabbed our attention this week.

Before the rains started, our captured locals out and about this week. served as the finish line of the 31st Original Escape from Alcatraz. Limited to 50 participants from The Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club and the South End Rowing Club in San Francisco, the event began with a swim from Alcatraz Island (without wet suits), a 14-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Mill Valley and a foot race along the Dipsea Trail to Stinson Beach and back.

This year’s winner, Joel Lanz of Santa Cruz completed the entire course in 3 hours and 34 minutes.

At the finish line, runners were able to listen to the soothing music of a trio from Berkeley that was practicing for a Sunday wedding in Old Mill Park. While over at the Boys Scouts from were selling popcorn.
