Thomas Dolby, Dan Hicks, Don Was and More Dive Into 'I Scare Myself'

At an event as part of the 36th Mill Valley Film Festival, star-studded group also included drummer Narada Michael Walden and cellist Zoe Keating

As part of the 36th Mill Valley Film Festival, British musician and technology pioneer Thomas Dolby appeared at 142 Throckmorton Theatre for the U.S. debut of The Invisible Lighthouse, his live show that is part film, part concert and part transmedia event.

Dolby’s film is about the closure of a lighthouse on the tip of a mysterious ex-military island off the east cost of England. He narrated and performed the live score during the screening, while Blake Leyh, an Oscar-nominated sound designer best known as the music supervisor for David Simon’s acclaimed TV series The Wireperformed live Foley.

After the screening, the duo was joined by a host of special guests, including Grammy-winning musician/producer Don Was, cellist/composer Zoe Keating, Mill Valley singer/songwriter Dan Hicks and stalwart Marin drummer/producer Narada Michael Walden. The group sat down for a brief discussion before performing a few songs, including Dolby's 1982 hit “She Blinded Me With Science," as well as "I Scare Myself," Hicks' song from his debut solo album in 1969 that Dolby covered in 1984.
