MVFF34 Fave Racks Up 10 Oscar Nominations

'The Artist' lands second-most noms for s the 84th annual Academy Awards, set for Feb. 26.

continued its run as a  contenders today when The Artist, which last October, racked up 10 Oscar nominations.

The tally was second to only Martin Scorsese's Hugo and included nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin, Best Supporting Actress for Berenice Bejo and Best Director for Michel Hazanivicius, among others.

"Filming The Artist in Los Angeles was a dream come true, and to receive this recognition today is far beyond what I ever imagined," Hazanavicius said in a statement.

"I'm overjoyed and filled with happiness," Bejo added. "I can't believe that a year ago I was learning how to tap dance and today I am nominated for an Academy Award."

In addition to The Artist, MVFF34 favorites like the ,  and , which was co-directed by Novato resident Robin Fryday also landed several nominations.

For non-MVFF34 films with local ties, Mill Valley resident Ren Klyce was nominated for sound editing and sound mixing on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gary Rydstrom and Richard Hymns were nominated for sound editing on Steven Spielberg's War Horse, while Rydstrom was nominated for sound mixing that film.

The 84th annual Academy Awards will be televised live from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on February 26.
