Hundreds Dance and Shake to Jimmy Dillon Band at Concert in the Plaza

Longtime local guitarist Jimmy Dillon and his rhythm and blues band drew a massive crowd Wednesday as part of the downtown summer concert series, which runs through Aug. 25.

Jimmy Dillon and his band of stalwart musicians and singers inspired hundreds of fans to vacate their lawn chairs and dance on the Depot Plaza Wednesday evening.

Downtown was bathed in soft afternoon light when Dillon took the stage. There were little kids, dogs, older listeners and every age in-between attending the party, part of the Art Commission’s free . Wine flowed as locals enjoyed mini-picnics on the plaza and listed to the horns, drums, guitars and great back up singers that rocked the impromptu stage.

Two more free concerts are on the way: Saturday, Aug. 18 (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.) features Sofi Rox & Dick Bright (indie/pop) and Forest Sun (Americana/folk), while Saturday, Aug. 25 (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.) features Melody Walker (American Roots) and Tia Carrol (R & B).

All concerts are sponsored by the Mill Valley Art Commission, whose board urges attendees to bring lawn chairs, a picnic and dancing shoes.
