How Sweet the Sound: A Triple Treat at the Throckmorton

Three multi-talented performers, working in perfect harmony, sing together for the first time tonight.

"" offers up a triple confection of musical harmony, bringing three virtuoso performers together for the first time tonight at 142 Throckmorton.

Conceived as a celebration of National Women's History Month, the show features three accomplished multi-hyphenates fusing together musical styles ranging from rock, jazz, and world music to  bluegrass, gospel and blues. Each of the women is a star in her own right, but the combination of their voices together will no doubt be a unique experience.

Barbara Higbie, Linda Tillery and Jane Siberry bring a wealth of talent to tonight's show. Higbie is local singer-songwriter, pianist, violinist, and fiddler; Tillery is a vocalist and percussionist well-known in the Bay Area music scene as the leader of the Cultural Heritage Choir and as a member of sixties rock/soul band The Loading Zone; and Siberry is a Canadian singer-songwriter known around the world for writing the hit song "Calling All Angels".

The women will be performing a medley of their own original songs, backed up by Nina Gerber, whom Barbabra Higbie calls "probably the best female electric guitar player in the  country."

Higbie, based in Berkeley calls the show "a really interesting combination. People will be excited about the three-part harmony." The Bammy-winner and Grammy-nominee has had a varied and distinguished career, coming up in the local music scene where Dave Grisman was an early collaborator. She recorded the now-classic Live at Montreux with her band, Montreux, and has performed with everyone from Santana to the Kronos Quartet.

She has nothing but the most superlative things to say about her fellow performers in tonight's show. She calls Jane Siberry "ethereal... the Canadian Laurie Anderson," and describes Tillery as a "phenomenon, a truly amazing singer and drummer." She's equally excited to be performing with Gerber, an immensely well-respected guitarist finally stepping out of the shadows with an album of her own, Not Before Noon.

Although it's their first time singing together, the women have known each other for somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 years (Tillery brought them all together), and are looking forward to bringing this dream-gig to a live audience for the first time tonight. They'll follow up their Throckmorton performance with two shows at Yoshi's in Oakland and a private performance in San Francisco.
