MILL VALLEY PHILHARMONIC AND THE DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY WINIFRED BAKER CHORALE
Where/When: Angelico Hall, Dominican University, 50 Acacia Ave., San Rafael, Friday, 8 p.m., Saturday 4 p.m. (Sorry. Sunday’s performance at the Mill Valley Community Center is sold out, though some standing room may be available.)
Why Go: Not only is Mill Valley’s very own performing Schubert’s Mass with the Dominican’s Chorale but the program also features a number of soloists from the Philharmonic’s concerto competition. Lovely.

GARDENING FROM THE GROUND UP
Where/When: Marin Art & Garden Center, 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., San Anselmo, Saturday, 9-noon.
Why Go: Want your garden to be the envy of the neighborhood? Healthy soil’s a must. Learn backyard composting, sheet mulching basics, and other techniques at this workshop. Watch as your garden blooms.
