Viva Zapata

A penniless Mexican Indian, Emiliano Zapata (Marlon Brando) leads the fight to restore land taken from his people during the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. He becomes an outlaw and with his brother Eufemio (Anthony Quinn) leads the rebellion in the south along with Pancho Villa In the north. The screenplay written by John Steinbeck examines the corrupting influence of power, both military and political. Anthony Quinn won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Steinbeck was nominated for Best Screenplay and Brando for Best Lead Actor.
