Teaching Science in a Magical Place: Afghanistan

Canyons carved by the slash of Ali's sword, fantastical celebrations heard deep in mountain recesses, a slain dragon weeping real tears, snakes that disarm humans...Intrepid science teacher Camilla Barry encountered these stories and many more on her travels through Afghanistan. How did she teach critical thinking, hands-on science while honoring local traditions? Come find out at her travel lecture July 10th, 7 p.m. etc.

Camilla Barry is founder of Classrooms Across Cultures, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing modern, inquiry-based science teaching to Afghanistan. Since 2003, her organization has trained hundreds of teachers and completed the first hands-on science textbook for Afghan Teacher Training Colleges. This book, Science Without a Laboratory, is currently being prepared for ebook distribution.
