Mill Valley Philharmonic presents Poetry/Music

Poetry/Music is a program of orchestral music inspired by poetry.  An MVP concert “docent” will read poetry excerpts related to Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, from Ibsen’s Peer Gynt;  Berlioz’s Harold in Italy inspired by Lord Byron’s poem, and featuring Claudia Campazzo on viola;  Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, and Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage inspired by Goethe.

MVP’s featured work is a world premiere of poet Jane Hirshfield and composer Clark Suprynowicz’s collaborative new work, Tectonic.  Inspired by the image of Mt. Talampais, Tectonic is an interplay of Ms. Hirshfield’s poetry and Mr. Suprynowicz’s orchestral music.  Ms. Hirshfield will read her poems, and Mr. Suprynowicz will be present at the concerts.

10th Annual Family Concert/Ic Cream Social sponsored by TCSD.
