Figures in Abstract

Seager Gray Gallery presents “Figures in Abstract” an exhibition of paintings by Linda Christensen, Charles Eckart, Kim Frohsin, Chris Gwaltney, Dennis Hare and Waldemar Mitrowski. The exhibition will run from March 6 through April 15. There will be a reception for the artists 6 to 8pm, Saturday, March 10. A catalog is available through the gallery.

Few cities other than New York can lay claim to a movement in art as vital as the 1950s Bay Area Figurative group as pioneered by David Park, Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Bischoff. The repercussions of that movement and its inspiration to artists remains vital beyond the west coast. The Seager Gray exhibition focuses in on 6 California artists inspired by this tradition, exploring the various ways each artist has found an individualexpression - Linda Christensen's interior scenes, Dennis Hare's meaty sculpted canvases, Chris Gwaltney's spacious compositions, Kim Frohsin's gestural poses, Waldemar Mitrowski's mysterious personae and Charles Eckart's forms emerging from the paint.
