September is traditionally a special time in the arts, as galleries put their best foot forward, with exhibitions aimed at gaining the attention of collectors and critics alike now that the summer is over. Seager Gray Gallery is no exception as they present the long-awaited one person exhibition “Journeys” by Bay Area artist Claudia Marseille. The exhibition runs from September 1 through September 29. The reception for the artist is on Saturday, September 8 from 6 to 8pm. A catalog is available through the gallery.
Marseille’s exhibition features multi-layered works in encaustic and oil inspired by the Bay Area and her recent travels in Scandinavia and Argentina. The paintings do not attempt any literal translation of her travel experiences, but present an internal landscape where, in her words,
“Discarded objects, recycled materials, graffiti, torn flyers, rusted metal all provide a bridge between my inner world and the outer landscape of urbanization and globalization. I apprehend and appreciate the life and beauty that urbanity offers us-- weathered through time, distinguished
by history, and marked by human presence.”
