Brush Battle Set for Saturday Paint Off

Annual Art Commission event features 35 artists painting scenes visible from the downtown plaza in any style or medium.

With the 2010 World Cup in the rearview mirror, competitive sports fans can now turn their attention to Saturday's 20th annual Paint Off in the Plaza. The Mill Valley Art Commission event will feature 35 artists painting in the downtown plaza, with a variety of cash prizes awarded to the best of the bunch.

The 35 artists will set up on the plaza adjacent to the Depot Bookstore and Cafe at around 10am and paint any scene that is visible from the plaza in any style or medium. The artists have until 2:30pm to finish their work, and may then exhibit one completed work in a dedicated display area for judging, which begins at 3pm.

The first place winner will garner $200, as will the recipient of the Jack Beck Award for the most original piece. Cash prizes will also be handed out for second and third place, as well as the People's Choice Award.
