Mill Valley artists Marianne Aaronsouth and Victoria Mimiaga are among a number of Mill Valley artists featured in this weekend's musically themed ICB Winter Open Studios event in Sausalito.
Located in a historic WWII-era industrial building at 480 Gate 5 Road, the ICB lofts are home to artists working in all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital media, jewelry, printmaking, fiber arts and much more. Among them is Aaronsouth, an abstract painter who says her "art becomes a dreamscape with elements of both that come together, catching a moment in a story, such as a journey, discovery, communion with nature, ecstatic states, or prayer."
For Mimiaga, having a daughter who is a singer-songwriter inspired her to craft some collages using musical notes in advance of this year's show.
"I feel the need to represent the female vocalist side of art - I'm doing an ode to the female vocalist," she said in advance of this year's event.
Winter open studios falls on the first weekend of December each year. This year the event is Dec. 1-2 from from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
A group show in Gallery 111 "Rhythm and Hues" will highlight the influence of music on art and incorporate materials from the world of music. Live acoustic youth musical groups including Throckappella, 142 Throckmorton Theatre’s Teen A Cappella Ensemble, will fill the halls with art for the ears.
