Alice in Wonderland fans will have no shortage of places to hunt for the rabbit hole this Friday at a screening of Tim Burton's other-worldly take on the classic tale. The screening will be held in Old Mill Park under the Redwoods, as part of the free Film Night in the Park.

Now in its 19th year, Film Night in the Park was founded by Tom Boss in San Anselmo, with screenings held in Creek Park. Mill Valley was added as a second venue a few years later, with Fairfax, San Geronimo added as well. The event has since expanded to San Francisco, where the masses turn out for screenings in Dolores Park, Union Square and Washington Square Park.

"We grew the festival to accommodate the growth," Boss said. "The first few years we had five screenings and now we do over 20."

Alice in Wonderland, which was released in March, tells the tale of 19-year-old Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska), who flees her stuffy existence and heads down a rabbit hole behind a white-gloved rabbit. She finds an alternate reality that is familiar to her because she's been dreaming about it since she was 6 years old. Alice embarks on a quest in which she comes upon an assortment of classic characters, from the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) to Tweedledee, Tweedledum and the Cheshire Cat.

Alice in Wonderland is the second and final Film Night in the Park in Mill Valley this year. The series continues with events in San Francisco, San Anselmo and San Geronimo later this month. See the Film Night in the Park Web site for more details.
