The following was submitted for publication by the City of Mill Valley:

The Department of Public works reports that a vehicle has caused significant damage to a power pole on East Blithedale Avenue between Elm Avenue and Locust Avenue.

Outbound traffic has been detoured onto Elm Avenue and inbound traffic is being detoured at Camino Alto to Miller Avenue.  PG&E, Public Works and Police personnel are at the site and are working to remedy the situation.  They estimate that regular traffic on East Blithedale will not resume until approximately 4:00 pm.

Please avoid East Blithedale Avenue and use Miller Avenue to reach your destination.  If you must drive on East Blithedale Avenue, please add time to your travel estimates and anticipate delays. Please avoid using the surrounding neighborhood streets, if possible.  Please drive slowly and carefully and obey all posted traffic signs.

Please check the City of Mill Valley homepage for updates throughout the day.

The E. Blithedale pole incident sounds like another in the same spot about 10 years ago. I was driving the second car behind a large, unmarked, white truck which sheared off a pole in the evening. It was dicey for a few moments as a couple of us got out of harms way. The truck driver stopped, assesed what he had done and then sped off. I don't know if he was ever caught. The poles along that section of road are very close to the street. I gather no one walking on the sidewalk was hurt in this latest incident either. Don Seitas; Mill Valley
