Stinson Beach Flooding Concerns Residents

Creek flooding has been identified by Stinson Beach residents as one of their top three concerns, and the Marin County Watershed Program is addressing the issue with an extensive study and community meetings to explore solutions.

The next outreach effort is from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 11 at the Stinson Beach Community Center, where staff and members of the Stinson Beach Flood Protection and Watershed Program will outline a flood study and community survey that are expected to be complete by spring 2014.

“We are taking a comprehensive look at recurring flood problems from Easkoot Creek, and we believe public participation is an important part of developing solutions that fit the community,” said Principal Watershed Planner Liz Lewis of the Marin County Department of Public Works. “We’ve collected some really good feedback already, but we’d like more of it.”

Residents are invited to attend the Jan. 11 meeting to learn about plans for increased flood protection, sediment reduction, emergency access and improved habitat for the creek and surrounding areas. The draft study is available for download on www.marinwatersheds.org, where you’ll also find videos, a slideshow and an opportunity to sign up for emailed updates.
