Residents Ready for Mrs. T's Mill Valley Beautification Day on Saturday

Hundreds of volunteers will fan out across the city to pick up trash, pull weeds, plant vegetation, and polish up the city for Earth Day.

Wielding with shovels, rakes, bags, gloves and other weapons against grime, hundreds of volunteers will descend on the city Saturday for its annual Earth Day cleaning.

For the annual Mrs. T’s Mill Valley Beautification Day, folks will gather at parks, schools, creeks and paths, where they’ll pick up trash, pull weeds, plant vegetation, and spruce up the city between 9 a.m. and noon.

There’s plenty of ways to participate in the community cleanup, named after the beloved environmentalist Elizabeth Terwilliger, who died in 2006. Business, neighborhoods, and local organizations have formed a variety of groups that will take on certain areas of the city.

The Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center plans to tackle the commercial area this year for 2013 Cleaup Up Downtown Mill Valley Day. Anyone who stops by will be put to work, Executive Director Daniel Escalzo said. Depending on participation, the Chamber may establish a more frequent volunteer cleanup day for the downtown, but for now the focus is on the whole city.

“Let’s make it a great day of community cooperation,” Escalzo said.
