Mill Valley Provides Drought Update, Water Conservation Advice
Mill Valley receives water primarily from the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD), and while recent storms have improved the water supply situation, the drought is still with us and certainly a serious issue.
California is experiencing one of the driest winters on record that, coupled with several consecutive winters with less than expected rainfall, has led Governor Jerry Brown to declare a drought emergency. Mill Valley receives water primarily from the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD), and while recent storms have improved the water supply situation, the drought is still with us and certainly a serious issue.
At their upcoming meeting on March 3, 2014, the City Council will receive a presentation from MMWD representatives and receive a report on the City's response plan to the drought. The City of Mill Valley has had a long-standing water conservation program and continues to make significant efforts to conserve water resources while maintaining the high level of services and quality indoor and outdoor facilities that Mill Valley residents enjoy on a daily basis.

MMWD's top three recommendations to conserve water:
- Turn off your irrigation system and water plants only as needed.
- Fix dripping faucets, running toilets and other leaks. Based on the experience of MMWD's conservation staff working in the field, about one third of homes have undetected water leaks. SeeMMWD's instructions on how to find leaks.
- Replace your high-water-use toilets, clothes washers and irrigation controllers with new water-efficient models and get a rebate from MMWD.
