Friends and family will gather at the Marin Rod and Gun Club at 6 p.m. to honor Alex Ivanov, who died Nov. 30 in a fire that tore through his cabin in Fairfax.

Friends and family will hold a memorial for when a fire tore through his cabin in Fairfax.

The doors open at 6 p.m. the celebration of his life begins around 7:15 p.m. Snacks, including Alex's favorite hot dogs will be served. Those attending are encouraged to bring photos of Ivanov and share their memories of him.

"It is everyone’s hope that they can do for Alex as well as he has always done for all of us," an organizer of the event said in an email. "It should be a night to enjoy all Alex's adventures and his carefully chosen friends. A celebration of his life."

His assets were destroyed in the fire. To help defer the cost of the event, a “Treasure Chest” will be available for donations.

Ivanov was a black and white photographer, ran a printing business, and had a small darkroom at the Industrial Center Building in Sausalito. He also worked in the still lab at Industrial Light & Magic creating books and catalogs, particularly for Star Wars. Ivnov was involved in the Sausalito Yacht Club the Marin Rod and Gun Club and was known as a gregarious, fun man who loved the outdoors.

Ivanov died when a fire destroyed his cabin on Meadow Way in Cascade Canyon. The Marin County Coroner's Office has yet to identify the charred body found in the ashes and debris, but friends have confirmed his death.

Marin County Fire officials have said the likely cause of the fire was the diversion of electricity for a marijuana-growing operation on the property. The cause is still under investigation.
