Humane Society Cuts Fees for Kittens, Cats

There have been 681 cats adopted in 2011 thus far, compared to 846 during the same time period in 2010, so fees have been cut in half.

The has temporarily reduced cat adoption fees because of what they say is nearly a 20 percent decrease in cat and kitten adoptions this year, humane society officials said.

Through Nov. 30, feline adoption fees have been slashed in half, with the center hopping to increase adoptions.

There have been 681 cats adopted in 2011 thus far, compared to 846 during the same time period in 2010. MHS Adoption Center director Tricia Breen hopes the adopt-a-thon's marked-down prices will help more animals find a new home.

"We hope that these reduced adoption fees will inspire people to adopt," Breen said in a statement.

Adoption fees for the next month will be $50 for cats and $62.50 for kittens. The prices have been dropped from $100 and $125, respectively.

The adoption center is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Marin Humane Society is at 171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd. in Novato.
