Free Weekday Parking Announced for Some Mill Valley Areas

The City of Mill Valley, the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company are pleased to announce that there will be free weekday parking in 30 selected spots in the downtown area from Monday, April 14 to Friday, May 2, 2014. The free parking is paid for by PG&E with ancillary costs absorbed by the City of Mill Valley and the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce. 

The free weekday parking will be from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday only. Parking Enforcement Officers will still enforce the maximum time limits for the spaces. Meters will run as usual on Saturday and Sunday. 

The free parking will be at all 11 metered spots on the south/Depot Plaza/Chamber office side of Throckmorton Avenue, and on the 19 spaces in the Depot Plaza lot that are closest to Throckmorton Avenue. The free parking spots will be indicated with signage. 

The City of Mill Valley is working closely with PG&E on a pipeline replacement project in the Downtown area of Mill Valley, which will enhance gas service to PG&E customers by replacing the gas lines with modern piping, creating a safer and more reliable natural gas system. The purpose of the free parking is to offset the inconvenience and disruption to traffic and parking during the downtown construction project. 

"We're thrilled that PG&E and the City of Mill Valley have agreed to provide some free parking downtown during the pipeline replacement project's heaviest impact on our merchants, businesses and restaurants," Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Paula Reynolds said. "We hope this goodwill gesture helps our downtown businesses get through this difficult period, and we're excited to continue to deliver great value to our members." 

"We want to support local residents and businesses during the construction project," City Manager Jim McCann said. "We are making every effort to mitigate traffic and parking impacts during construction and are pleased to be able to help."
