Dig Out Those Umbrellas — Rain Expected Starting Monday Night
The National Weather Service is tracking a storm that's is expected to bring rain to the Bay Area and snow to the Sierra Nevada range.
By Bay City News Service and Patch Staff — A Pacific storm system carrying "a fair amount of moisture" is bearing down on the Pacific Northwest and could bring up to an inch of rain to North Bay hills starting on Monday night, said.
That's big news for weather watchers, as San Francisco and most of the Bay Area is ending thedriest year in calendar history. Not all may be lost, as it's the start of the rainy season, and historically the area twice has had record rainfalls after dry Octobers.
Communities in the South Bay could get a quarter-inch or less, according to the weather service.
Motorists are advised to use extra precaution when driving if it
does rain, as the first hour of rainfall is likely to produce slick and
hazardous conditions on Bay Area roadways.
"So much oil has built up on the roads with the lack of rain,"
Bell said.
Drivers are advised to leave extra time to commute and leave
plenty of space between vehicles, especially in heavy traffic. The storm front is not expected to include significant winds.
As of Sunday, the weather service did not plan on issuing any weather advisories or warnings, Bell said.
