Affordable Care Act Implementation Continues

County health workers assisting those who started but didn’t finish enrollment.

The following is a news release from the County of Marin:

People eager to sign up for health insurance are getting a break from the Health Care Exchange, otherwise known as Covered California.

The exchange is allowing consumers who had trouble enrolling by the March 31 deadline to work with a certified delegate and finish applications by April 15. Anyone who created an online account and started the application is eligible to receive assistance in finishing the process. Counties can accept applications from customers who indicate that they tried to apply but were unable to start an application because of high volumes on the Covered California website.

Also, Covered California announced that certified enrollment counselors, County eligibility workers, certified insurance agents and plan-based enrollers who were helping consumers apply online may now assist the consumers with a paper application. The service assistant can then enter the information into the enrollment website.

All legal residents in the United States were required to have health insurance as of January 2014 as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Applicants with pre-existing medical conditions can no longer be denied coverage. The ACA does not affect coverage for people with health insurance provided through their employer or through Medicare.

Staff members from Marin County Health and Human Services (HHS), with the support of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, have worked to implement new coverage by adding eligibility workers and streamlining services. County staff held dozens of meetings and public presentations about health insurance options and remains committed to help everyone who is eligible to obtain insurance.

Most conservatives and libertarians by nature, regardless of income, value freedom. They abhor more laws , especially unconstitutional ones that force them to buy something. They are not takers, and know that the free market in the US has provided the climate and incentives to create a medical community known as the best in the world. Obama saw a few million without healthcare and decided rather than address those individuals needs, he would turn the whole system upside down to bring us down to the level of the 2nd world nations and use this as a springboard toward a single payer system. Now you want to talk about a sales job, a whoever convinced justice roberts that this was constitutional knows how to sell.

"Toothless redneck tea party followers" ? Really Bubba? Never met any who were toothless. Just a meaningless sterotype of our country brethren of little financial means. And just as many toothless in any democrat haven inner city ghetto. Funny, as your monniker sounds pretty redneck anyway, as in "Joe six pack", etc..

Selling blacks that the democrat party is the best thung for their future was a helluva sales job, especially considering their racist roots, at least in the south. Obama convincing blacks to vote for him a SECOND time was also a piece of work after ignoring them for 4 years and refilling their jobs with illegals. You will still get the highest approval level from black voters, even though unemployment for them is higher than illegals.

Bubba, the Massachusetts plan was driven by overwhelming Democrat majorities in one of the least Conservative states. The ACA was 100% inclusive of Democrats, most if course not knowledgable of the law and/or willing to let HHS figure it out in implementation. Republicans were shut out in all attempts to amend or alter this shell game of a law. The ACA - for good or bad - is ENTIRELY the product of the Democrat party and parliamentary tricks. You need to be honest and be proud about it. Trying to pass it back on the Republicans likely indicates you admit to it's failure. And, no, "at least it tries" is not sufficient.
