A Plethora Of Mill Valley Students Are Headed to the County Spelling Bee Championships

Six students will represent Mill Valley in the countywide elementary school spelling bee championships this Saturday, following big wins in the southern region earlier this week.

The Marin County South Regional Elementary Spelling Bee was held this past Mon., Oct. 28, at Old Mill School in Mill Valley. 

Jack O’Neill, a 6th grader from Del Mar Middle School, was the first place winner, correctly spelling the winning word, plethora.

As part of a countywide program of spelling be contests coordinated by the Marin County Office of Education, the following six finalists will represent the South Region at the Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee Championship on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Marin County Office of Education.

Julian Reiss, 5th grade, Edna Maguire Elementary School – second place

Lyla Kirkpatrick, 6th grade, Mount Tamalpais School – third place

Maya Meckley, 4th grade, Tamalpais Valley Elementary School – fourth place

Morgan Hunt, 6th grade, Del Mar Middle School – fifth place

Adam Guggenheim, 5th grade, Edna Maguire Elementary School – sixth place                                                           

Mary Jane Burke, Marin County Superintendent of Schools, asked Patch to send out a special thanks to the Marin Association of Realtors, Inc. for volunteering as judges for this popular academic event. 

The judges for this competition were Christopher Caproni of RPM Mortgage and Kathleen Clifford of Pacific Union International Real Estate.
