Marin Tremors End Season Impressively

The Marin Tremors 8U softball team finished its summer season on a strong note by taking 2nd place in the 2013 Dirt War held August 2-4 in Sonoma, CA.

Coached by Tiburon's Rhoda Horn and Sausalito Sea Lion Coach Joe Burns, the Tremors finished the season with a record of 12-6-3, which was quite an accomplishment given this was the first year the Marin Tremors have fielded an 8U team and the first time the players on the squad have played with one another.

During the weekend, the Tremors went 2-0-1 in pool play beating the Vallejo Hurricanes 6-3, tying the eventual #1 seed Rohnert Park Rebels 0-0, and beating the host Petaluma Earthquakes 10-1 to earn the #2 seed. On Championship Sunday, the Tremors received a well deserved bye into the second round of single elimination play where they met the #3 seed Earthquakes for a second time in two days. Sunday’s rematch proved to be tighter than Saturday’s affair but the Tremors prevailed 2-0 to earn a spot in the Championship game. Awaiting the Tremors was the Hurricanes, which had upset the #1 seed to earn its second consecutive trip to the Dirt War title game in as many years. The finale was a tense contest as Vallejo got off to a strong start scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning only to be answered by the Tremors in the bottom half of the frame.  After a scoreless second inning, Vallejo added two runs in the top of the 3rd bringing the score to 5-3. The Tremors added a run in the bottom of the 3rd taking the score to 5-4 heading into the 4th and final inning. While the Tremors struck out the side to get to the bottom of the 4th unscathed, they were unable to get the tying run across the plate despite getting their first two batters aboard and lost 5-4.

This was the second 2nd place finish for the Tremors in the four tournaments the team participated in this summer. After going 5-4-2 over the course of the first two tournaments, the Tremors finished formidably going 7-2-1 in the back half of the season. Throughout, the girls showed incredible drive, strength, and grit while always showcasing great sportsmanship above all else. In every measure, it was a very successful inaugural outing for the 8U Marin Tremors.
