LaCoppa passes the torch to Equator Coffees

For the last 13 years, LaCoppa has welcomed you with ineffable warmth, hospitality, and a dogged determination to serve you the best coffee around.  We would know, we've been coming here ourselves since we put roots down in Marin in 1989. Arnold has been a friend for the last 15 years. When I arrived in San Francisco in the Summer of 1989 the first coffee shop I visited was Spinelli’s on 24th Street in San Francisco.  I then made my way to Mill Valley and resided on Throckmorton Avenue visiting what was then, the Coffee Roastery on a daily basis.

Coffee shops are living things. A good one serves good coffee, but a great one fuels connectedness, a sense of belonging, a commitment to dependably brightening your day—a constant even as the world outside churns and changes. A great coffee shop is your home away from home, a hub of faces you know. And LaCoppa was a great one.

As a mentee of Alfred Peet decades ago, Arnold Spinelli began weaving himself into the foundation of what the coffee industry is today. Everything we do, learn, and innovate in some way rests upon what architects of the coffee world built back then, and we aim to honor that. In the same breath, coffee is coming of age in some exciting ways, and we've grown smitten with some of the changes. While we stand on tradition, we embrace the evolution of coffee and the craft of brewing it.

And so, as our friend Arnold passes the torch to us, we remain committed to our joint legacy of quality, sustainability and social responsibility.  It is an honor to work with the farmers who grow our coffee, and our roasters and baristas who steward the product to your cup. We are a close family committed to our craft. Together, we will make it our business to bring you the coffee that made us fall in love with the specialty coffee industry back in 1995 when we started our roasting company Equator Coffees & Teas, out of a garage in Corte Madera.

For a sneak peak of what's coming, we invite you to visit us at Equator Coffees at Proof Lab Surf Shop in Tam Valley. Please, come say hello. We'd love to meet you.

See you soon!
