Orlando Wiggins, the P.E. teacher and coach at Ring Mountain Day School, won the Jefferson Award for Public Service this summer for his work as co-founder, director and coach of the Southern Marin Lightning basketball team. Orlando not only coaches his players on the court, but also in life in general. He makes sure that they stay on top of their grades and all of the players who have gone through his program have gone on to college
Orlando does all this as well as working as a full time P.E teacher and coach at Ring Mountain Day School in Mill Valley, studying Behavioral Science at the College of Marin, and taking care of his own children. No matter what he does, Orlando is fully committed to giving it his all. He is always on the playground to welcome kids first thing in the morning and send them off in the afternoon, and never hesitates to volunteer to help out in any way he can.
