Local Artist Nabs Paint-Off Prize

Victoria Mimiaga's painting of a bicycle garners top honor as artist pack the Depot Plaza for annual Art Commission contest.

Artists from throughout the Bay Area packed into the Depot Plaza Saturday afternoon for the Art Commission's annual Paint-Off in the Plaza, with Mill Valley painter Victoria Mimiaga garnering both the People's Choice award and the top prize from the commission's judges.

Mimiaga, who was named Marin Artist of the Year in 2004, painted a bicycle parked on the bike rack outside the Depot Bookstore and Cafe, following the contest's rules of painting something within sight of the plaza itself.

San Francisco resident Scott Grabowski landed second place from the commission judges, while Eileen Ormiston of San Anselmo nabbed third place. Scarlett Costello won the Youth Award.
